Meet Cute Face, terrier that was abandoned by his owner in Minuwangoda area. Neighbours called & asked help our team mate Dilu Rupasinghe for help so we arranaged him to be dropped at one of the vets Dr Roshan we work with. The doggy has an open wound in his anus and it is a curable. We think due to old age, His owners probably dumped him due to his skin issue and the wound he was dumped to the road.
He is now at Dr Roshans and we are looking for a home for this old soule.
Please help us with funds.
Cost estimate ( we need to board him at vet until we find him a home) He has been at vet for a while now and its hard to find a home as he is quite old.
Cost estimate ( 1 month) Rs 300 per day for boarding : 300 *30 = 9000 Vaccinations ( Rs 400 per vaccination he need PARVO, ARV and DHL ) = Rs 1200 Mange treatment : Rs 1000 Medication for wounds : Rs 3000 Transport : Rs 2000 Total : 16,200 /=
What ever funds left will be used for other rescues we have. We will post bills and cost break down and sponsors can go visit him if they like.
2 and half months old, vaccinated and de- wormed. They are also house trained. Very good with children and other animals. We will sterilize the females free of charge at age of 5 months. Please call Sujatha on 0772508457.
Meet "Disney" but her life is not a fairy tail Disney was dumped at a temple by her owner. We don't know why may be because she is a girl, may be she is getting older, may be they dont have hearts ( probably never had hearts to begin with) . This poor girl is extremely sad and tired and looks like she has given up on us humans. We know there is someone out there who has a big heart and a tiny bit of space in there home for Disney. We are not aware of her age yet but we will double check it with our vets. We are happy to sterilize her free of charge and vaccinate her as well. Do you think you have the heart to adopt her ??
Please call Shinuka on +94712228357
IF YOU CANT adopt, please help her out by sharing.

ඔවුන්ගේ කුස පිරවීමට අපට සහය වන්න පුලුවන්ද? Hey guys! Nihal De silva, one of our Team members is helping us conduct a feeding program. He has been doing this on his own for nearly 10 -15 years but now he needs our backup, so we are helping him conduct them in the following areas along with the help of our other team members.
The stray dog population in the areas mentioned below and fed by us is now nearly 100- 125. They are fed every other day since we don’t have funds to feed them every day. However, if we do receive sufficient funds, we can feed them every day!!
Areas we feed:1) Palawatta Junction 2) Akuresgoda Malabe Road 3) Akuresgoda : Isuru Paya 4) Malabe Maid Road 5) Malabe Temple 6) Koswatha towards Palan handiya 7) Baththaramulla Town 8) Near Baththaramulla Arpico 9) Baththaramulla Sethsiri Paya 10) Kotte Army Check Point
WE NEED YOUR HELP with the funds and the steps are simple.. 1) You can donate food (We prefer this so you know doggies are getting it. You can even come with Nihal uncle on the chosen day to feed them) 2) You can donate the money; Rs 3500/= per day for the food we need (We will send you the bills, but its easy if you give food and we insist on sending you the bills if you donate) 3) You have to contact Oshadie or Janith Lakmal for account details and you need to let us know what you can donate (ex: food or money). Send us your full name, home address (to send you bills), mobile number, amount deposited or food provided. We maintain accounts that anyone can see online so we need to know these details.
What we need per day to feed 100 -125 dogs: 1) Pet food 26 packets of Maxi food (They don't eat pedigree so we need to cook it with rice, and Maxi pet food is the cheapest we found so far) OR 2) Salmon tins (large tin): 10 tins With 3) 20 Kg of Rice
If sending food is not easy then you could donate Rs 3500/= (includes the diesel cost as well) to feed them every day. Other than the cost per food every day, it costs Mr. Nihal around Rs 400.00 on diesel so you can help for the day. It takes 1 big Gas cylinder for one month so you can help us with that as well, if you wish.
Please call Dilukshi on 0716912194 for more information on funding and if you want to talk to Mr. Nihal you can call him on 0776580688 or inbox @Oshadie Korale on face book. She will answer almost any question you have.
You can also email us at adoptadoginsrilanka@gmail.com for more information. Please let us know how much or what you wish to donate and for which day, along with the details we requested.
WE JUST made a XCEL sheet for feeding program , you now can book a feeding program date if you wish to participate or reserve for your self . We desperatly need funds to feed doggies and it only cost Rs 3500/= to feed 126 of them, if you dont want your details on this list you can always inbox us and we keep it only to our self :) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlnlmJHyYwxYdE1yZ09XYU9fdnV5MkVnYTEyWVJSNkE#gid=0
Thank you soooooooooo much guys!!!! Adopt a dog in Sri Lanka Team ♥!
The camp went really well and the veterinary team was great and super enthusiastic as well. We managed to neuter a 100 dogs as targeted, and also treated 27 special cases for TVT (transmissible venereal tumors), skin rashes, pyometra (accumulation of pus in the uterus), eye conditions etc.
The surgeries were conducted by veterinary surgeons experienced in conducting CNVR (catch, neuter, vaccinate, release) programmes - recognized as the most humane and effective method of controlling stray dog related issues in the country - and assisted by professional medical staff. They were really nice and well a crazy lot, so it was very easy working with them... :)
All neutered dogs were given red collars and ear-notched to be identifiable in future, and given a yogurt-treat before being dropped back to the place where they were found. They were also given rabies, mange and antibiotic vaccinations.
Met some real sweethearts :D some who refused to go home after sterilizations, some who ate more than their fair share of yogurt, some real macho fellows who recovered super fast and insisted on getting the hell away from there, some boys who (even AFTER being neutered, and still only half conscious) tried to get lucky with the females who were passed out (yes, interesting) :P
The villagers were really grateful and said that the previous times such a programme was conducted in this area, the dogs were just picked up and after the operations, just left unconscious to find their way home when they wake up – which they find it difficult to do and which other territorial dogs don’t allow them to do. So they were really happy with the way we did it - dropping them off in the area which they were picked up from and familiar with.
So basically it went very well, so a very big thank you to each one of you for helping us make it happen. We really could not have done it without you, - no really, we wouldn't have :)
Thank you so much Tanja Nufer Huwiler for your donation which got us started on this project, and thank you for picking us :) We are glad you believed in us to put your donation to good use :)
And a big thank you to everyone who chipped in to help us bear all the costs and extra sterilizations! You all are very much the reason why we were able to make this camp happen :) So thank you so very much :) ♥
We were off only by some thing around 3663/= which Andrew helped us with :) Please take a look and let us know if you have any questions. We have bills and letter from vet confirming payment of bill and the number of sterilizations done. You will soon also see videos :)
To sponsors : We will post hard copies of all the bills in few days to each of your home address as well.
අපි බේරගත්ත අය ..............Some of the pictures could be graphic but this is what humans have done to these poor babies. All the updates and information about each dog can be found in the picture description along with the story. We have also given the cost breakdown for each dog and how the donations were used. We do take in rescues when we can and have space, and request for donations to cover medical bills. Please do share our album and spread the word. We could always do with more help. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LEE lived little far away from Mahara. This handsome is once an owned and now abandoned simply because his got no fur! If LEE was treated when the owners saw his skin conditioned things would not have been so tough for him. He was barely fed in that area, no one wanted him around, all he got from humans was stones, kicks, yells. And at the time of rescuing him his condition has got worse than whats seen on picture! Skin was splitting and bleeding
Thank you Kanchana and Malli for all the possible taking care and informing us and having faith in us. Due to exceeding rescues we had to hold on to LEE for 2 weeks and Kanchana and Malli did all they could and as we promised, we stretched ourselves to take LEE as you can see he is a handsome boy and got a bright future he he
Adopt a dog in Sri Lanka (ADSL)is a Facebook and internet based animal welfare group that help unite rescued stray puppies with families who are willing to give them a kind, loving home and a safe environment to grow. The group, consisting of young professionals who share the same passion to make the lives of street dogs a better one have so far managed to unite 1200 rescued puppies with kind families in a very short period of 2 and half years .We use our Facebook group page as a platform for potential adopters to view the puppies that are up for adoption and once a pup is selected, a short telephone interview is conducted between a group member and the potential owner to ensure that the selected pup fits the new family well and that the new owners are made aware of the responsibilities that come with the new addition of a pet and advice is also given on how to take care of a puppy and medical needs etc, where required. Also the details of the owners will be listed for future reference and details of transporting the puppy of pick up will be discussed as well.
While rehoming puppies is our main aim, it is not the only project we do. We also try to help adult stray dogs on the road too. One of the major issues we try to tackle is the ever increasing stray dog population. We conduct sterilization camps, using an expert team of vets in rural areas in the country in order to help prevent the stray dog population. The main reason in choosing a rural area is that there are so many animal welfare groups concentrating around cities that rural areas of the country are practically ignored. Plus proper vet services are very hard to come by.
The area we chose to do our sterilization camps is Katharagama and Sella Katharagama in the Monaragala district. Aside from the above mentioned reasons, another major reason to choose Katharagama is the fact that it is considered a holy, sacred ground and people had made a habit of dumping their unwanted puppies in the kovil complex and temple grounds. So far we have conducted 5 sterilization camps (one every three months) and 700 successful sterilizations. We are seeing a noticeable reduction of the stray population in the area and an increased awareness of the people in the area about sterilization and proper vet care of their own pets. Not only do we sterilize the stray dogs that we catch or dogs that are brought to us during camp, we also treat them for any wounds, infections or mange that we find on them. On average we manage to sterilize about 100 dogs per camp but on our third sterilization camp we managed to sterilize a record 210 stray and owned dogs in the area. We have sterilized over 400 dogs in colombo and 700 in Kathrgama, with a total of 1100 Sterilizations.
Another aspect of ADSL is rescues. When a wounded or sick dog is brought to our attention we put up their rescue story along with a plea for help with funds on our rescue section and admit the poor soul to a vet hospital and treat them and eventually try to rehome them rather than releasing them back on to the road. So far we have managed to rescue over 136 heartwarming cases. We make sure to provide regular updates to all the sponsors and finally when the bills are paid to sent a copy of the bills and expenses by email and posts them on the group page so everyone may see them. This same process is done with sterilization camp bills or for any other expenses where we ask for funds from the public.
Our latest project is the Feeding program. We have joined hands with Mr. Nihal, a veteran animal lover who has been feeding around 125 stray dogs in the Batttaramulla-Malabe area for a long time. He contacted us because it was very hard for him to continue feeding the dogs on his own finances and we joined forces and streamlined the process. It costs an estimated Rs.3500/= per day to feed the doggies and the feeding is carried out every other day. Sponsors have the choice of either donating the money or donating provisions for the number of feedings they choose to sponsor for. And at the end of each month all the expenses and bills will be posted to the sponsors.
