Sterilization Camp වන්ධීකරණ සැත්කම්

Hi everyone,

The camp went really well and the veterinary team was great and super enthusiastic as well. We managed to neuter a 100 dogs as targeted, and also treated 27 special cases for TVT (transmissible venereal tumors), skin rashes, pyometra (accumulation of pus in the uterus), eye conditions etc.

The surgeries were conducted by veterinary surgeons experienced in conducting CNVR (catch, neuter, vaccinate, release) programmes - recognized as the most humane and effective method of controlling stray dog related issues in the country - and assisted by professional medical staff. They were really nice and well a crazy lot, so it was very easy working with them... :)

All neutered dogs were given red collars and ear-notched to be identifiable in future, and given a yogurt-treat before being dropped back to the place where they were found. They were also given rabies, mange and antibiotic vaccinations.

Met some real sweethearts :D some who refused to go home after sterilizations, some who ate more than their fair share of yogurt, some real macho fellows who recovered super fast and insisted on getting the hell away from there, some boys who (even AFTER being neutered, and still only half conscious) tried to get lucky with the females who were passed out (yes, interesting) :P

The villagers were really grateful and said that the previous times such a programme was conducted in this area, the dogs were just picked up and after the operations, just left unconscious to find their way home when they wake up – which they find it difficult to do and which other territorial dogs don’t allow them to do. So they were really happy with the way we did it - dropping them off in the area which they were picked up from and familiar with.

So basically it went very well, so a very big thank you to each one of you for helping us make it happen. We really could not have done it without you, - no really, we wouldn't have :)

Thank you so much Tanja Nufer Huwiler for your donation which got us started on this project, and thank you for picking us :) We are glad you believed in us to put your donation to good use :)

And a big thank you to everyone who chipped in to help us bear all the costs and extra sterilizations! You all are very much the reason why we were able to make this camp happen :) So thank you so very much :) ♥
